Are These Real Physician Dictations Useful? |
Many medical transcriptionists, and others, have found these practice transcription tapes to be a most useful tool:
Community colleges and medical secretarial schools use it to enhance their current curriculum.
Students, at home, in any stage of learning medical transcription through a community college or home study or self-study program use it.
New medical transcriptionists who have completed the necessary courses yet lack the experience necessary to find employment.
Medical professionals who wish to cross-train into another field.
Former medical transcriptionists who wish to re-enter the field and need to "brush-up" on skills.
Current medical transcriptionists who wish to broaden their spectrum of experience to new medical specialties.
Hospitals are likely to have a format they need you to follow, and physicians in private practice typically have a format they prefer. Therefore, you can begin transcribing quite early in the learning process. If typing speed is a concern of yours it will improve as you progress through the tapes. It is likely the terminology will slow you down at first as you will be seeking regular assistance from your medical dictionary and other references. Your typing speed and knowledge of terminology will improve simultaneously. (See Recommendations).
